AI & Image Policy

The Midnight Archives may use AI-assisted tools for outlining, drafting support, language checks, image concepting, and editorial quality checks. AI is a tool in the workflow, not a source of evidence or an independent editor. Last updated: August 13, 2026.

Human editorial responsibility

A human editor remains responsible for topic selection, source review, factual framing, uncertainty labels, corrections, image selection, and the final publication decision. We do not present generated text as a primary record, witness account, quotation, or verified fact.

Evidence and uncertainty

Claims must be checked against appropriate sources. Articles distinguish confirmed records, reported claims, folklore, later interpretations, hypotheses, and unresolved questions. AI output alone cannot establish any of them.

AI-assisted and reconstructed images

Illustrative, reconstructed, composited, or AI-assisted visuals must not be presented as authentic documentary evidence. When a visual could reasonably be mistaken for a historical photograph, case-file image, official document, or real event record, it should be clearly labeled in the article or caption. Images must not create false quotations, logos, official seals, or misleading documentary markings.

Rights, dignity, and corrections

We avoid graphic or exploitative depictions, especially around victims, missing persons, children, and living people. If an AI-assisted statement or image is misleading, inaccurate, improperly attributed, or raises a rights concern, contact wlflaqk@gmail.com with the page URL and details. We will review it under our Corrections policy.
